MORE COTTAGE GARDEN PHOTOS

The shots on this page begin on August 20th and proceed in seasonal order. Enjoy!

A garden view from the cottage deck, birdbath in the foreground. Mums planted in the yellow pot will brighten the autumn days.
Clumps of ornamental grass planted in June nod beside the hydrangea. Not hardy in our region, the grasses will be potted up and stored inside over the winter (at Dexter's suggestion). Perhaps they'll survive to be replanted next year!

Late-blooming Crape Myrtles ("Centennial Spirit") are brilliant now above a mass of budding chrysanthemum. The garden structure built this summer will be stained the same indigo color as the cottage shingles, and Dex has recommended a salmon-colored climbing rose... We'll set out wisteria or something else, too. The column bricks were rescued from an earlier renovation on the main house.

The August garden still displays blooms of bright yellow Hellioipsis and a broad-leaved purple salvia variety. In the background, a mound of Black-eyed Susans and a second blooming of Alpha Phlox enjoy the sun.

Blazing summertime annuals in front of basil and rosemary.

A little water garden, in a Spanish pot from my mother-in-law. The whippy Equisetum stalks echo the narrow-leaved "mother-in-law's tongue" behind.

The cottage entrance, framed by newly-planted native Canadian Hemlock. Lavender blooms of Althea, planted by residents years ago, provide some old-fashioned charm.
