ABOUT TERRACE COTTAGE

We built Terrace Cottage on the site of a dilapidated 1920's outbuilding. It took us one day to send the remains of the old structure to the landfill, and a little bit longer to put together the Cottage.

Ours is not a "bed & breakfast" with adjoining room suites but rather a fully private, self-accommodating neighborhood guest house for 2 - 4 guests.

Prepare meals at your leisure in the fully-equipped kitchen. You'll find groceries and fresh foods, a wine market, and our local fresh seafood shop within comfortable walking distance. Or stroll to nearby coffeeshops, restaurants, pubs, or bakeries for a bite out.

IT'S ALL HERE

Terrace Cottage is a spacious guest house providing everything you'll need for a relaxing stay. Located in one of Asheville's historic districts, ours is a neighborhood cottage designed in a transitional Arts & Crafts style and built in the spirit of the sturdy homes around us. Terrace Cottage blends our ideas of comfort and utility with the traditions of the community that drew us here in the first place.

The exterior is wrapped in stucco and stained cedar shingles. Plenty of windows let the light and breezes inside, and the cottage is sited for maximum privacy during your visit. You'll also appreciate the comfortable deck.

Basics include central heat and air-conditioning, telephone, cable television/VCR, cd player, queen-size bed, a new quality sleep sofa, bed and bath linens, ample closet storage, tiled shower and complete kitchen facilities.

Entry to the Cottage is by stairway and is unsuitable for wheelchair access. We are glad to recommend fine local lodgings that are suitable.

The Cottage landscape features native evergreen trees and shrubs and seasonal perennials, annuals, and container plantings, providing year-round interest.

WHO LIVES DOWNSTAIRS?

No one, and no, it's not a garage! Guests occasionally ask about what's below the second-story cottage. There's a service room for our guests housing the furnace, storage for your luggage and bicycles, a laundry sink and hookups for a future washer/dryer. The rest of the lower level is storage for our gardening tools, and a woodworking shop for the owner (which he uses judiciously, when our guests are out for the day!). We're in and out of the downstairs now and then during daylight hours but with the double-layered sound-insulated sheetrock ceiling, you probably won't notice our comings and goings.

SAFETY ALERT

Terrace Cottage was built under strict city Building Safety Department supervision with many inspections of electrical, mechanical, smoke detection, fire egress, and other installations essential to our guest's safety. You'll find copies of our "yellow tags" signifying inspector's approval in the blue binders on the cottage bookshelf. The neighborhood's friendly and reassuring, a considerate community eager to get to know visitors- so relax and enjoy your stay.

PLEASE NOTE

Terrace Cottage and the Cottage grounds are a tobacco-free environment, and our guest's beloved pets are not allowed. We appreciate your cooperation with these policies which are non-negotiable. Disregard for them will result in cancellation of your stay without refund, and disregarding our pets policy in particular may result in additional pest control and cleaning charges. Thank you.
